The Northwest Detention Center is located on the Tacoma tideflats, a polluted superfund site.

The center is guilty of inhumane treatment and violations of detainees human and Constitutional rights. This is according to a recent detailed report by OneAmerica and the S.U. School of Law. Detainees receive poor medical care and food, family visits are cut short, there's poor access to legal representation, and it's overcrowded. The detention center is operated by a private profit-making company--Geo. Geo receives $95 a day from the government to warehouse each prisoner. Now Geo wants to expand this 1000 bed prison to 1500.

The government is using racial profiling and violating the civil rights of immigrant workers whose only "crime" is working. The Wall St. banks who are guilty of criminal lending practices are given a bailout, while immigrant workers are scapegoated! We will bring coffee and food, support and solidarity to visiting families and loved ones at the detention center. Stop the raids, mass firings, deportations and jailings of immigrant workers! Shut down the NW Detention Center!
