The Rev. Dr. Naim Ateek, founder of Sabeel (The Way) Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center in Jerusalem in 1991 will be the featured speaker at a lunch sponsored by the North Puget Sound Coalition for Peace and Justice in Israel and Palestine and the mission committee of the Everett First Presbyterian church on Monday, July 20th beginning at noon at the First Presbyterian Church in Everett. Naim Ateek has emerged as an international speaker and author and a leading advocate for justice and peace in Israel/Palestine. Ateeks vision is presented in his newest book, A Palestinian Christian Cry for Reconciliation, which will be available at the luncheion. He is also author or editor of a number of other books, including Justice & Only Justice: A Palestinian Theology of Liberation. His honors include the Sayre Award from the Episcopal Peace Fellowship and honorary doctorates from the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA, and the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, from which he had earned a divinity degree. He also earned a doctorate from the San Francisco Theological Seminary. Prior to founding Sabeel, he was a parish priest in Haifa and Nazareth, and was canon of St. Georges Cathedral, Jerusalem.
